SD118
SD118 is an oral, small molecule treatment for neuropathic pain which has shown significant activity in several models of pain. SD118 has previously been developed for an alternative indication and has a history of successful administration to humans. It is estimated that up to 5% of the general population of the USA, Europe and Japan are affected by neuropathic conditions including diabetic neuropathic pain and post-herpatic neuralgia. Neuropathic pain is associated with peripheral or central nervous system injury and is predominantly treated at present with a variety of anticonvulsant, antidepressant and analgesic drugs. However, many patients fail to respond adequately to these agents and so neuropathic pain is recognised as an area of significant unmet medical need. The global market value for neuropathic pain treatments is currently estimated at $2.1Bn and is predicted to rise to $5.5Bn by 2015. SD118 is being jointly developed with NeuroDiscovery Ltd and its wholly owned subsidiary NeuroSolutions Ltd under a Collaboration Agreement concluded in June 2006. The product has successfully completed regulatory preclinical studies and has progressed into Phase 1 clinical trials. SD726
SD726 is an oral, small molecule inhibitor of the reuptake of serotonin noradrenaline and dopamine (Tri) which has demonstrated an attractive preclinical profile of activity. In addition SD726 has been designed specifically to reduce class side effects typically associated with current drugs. SD726 is currently being developed for chronic pain.
The prevalence of chronic pain is estimated at more than 500 million patients throughout the US, Europe and Japan, the majority of whom are affected by osteoarthritis and lower back pain. The existing market opportunity is estimated at $10Bn and is forecast to climb steadily through the increasing use of novel compounds in the so-called "pain gap" between NSAIDs and strong opioids. Pre-clinical studies are underway together with associated formulation development activities. SD208
SD208 is in development as an oral treatment for moderate to severe psoriasis. SD208 is a chemically optimized form of an existing successful drug tailored specifically for the optimal treatment of psoriasis.
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated, genetic disease characterised by an abnormal rate of skin growth. Psoriasis is a relatively common condition which affects around 2-3% of the Western population but with a lower incidence in Asia. Overall, it is believed that there are approximately 23 million sufferers worldwide of which some 25% have moderate to severe psoriasis. The current market for psoriatic drugs is estimated to be worth in excess of $1Bn. per annum and is projected to grow strongly through the increasing use of biologic therapies. Pre-clinical studies are underway together with associated formulation development activities. |
