SD118

Product Details

SD118

SD118 is an oral, small molecule treatment for neuropathic pain which has shown significant activity in several models of pain. SD118 has previously been developed for an alternative indication and has a history of successful administration in human clinical trials.

SD118 had been jointly developed with NeuroDiscovery Ltd and its wholly owned subsidiary NeuroSolutions Ltd under a Collaboration Agreement concluded in June 2006. However, to maximize the chances of successful development, the two companies have entered into an Assignment Agreement, under which NeuroDiscovery Ltd. will assign its ownership of SD118 to Sosei.
Sosei will now have 100% of worldwide development and commercial rights of SD118 (excluding Japan and some parts of Asia). In return for the assignment, Sosei will, for the life of existing granted SD118 patent, pay a percentage of any future revenue to NeuroDiscovery Ltd.

The product has successfully completed Phase I clinical trials. Sosei will continue to explore funding possibilities with reduced risk (project financing etc.) for the next stage of development.

About Neurophatic Pain

Neurophatic Pain

Neuropathic pain is caused by a primary lesion or dysfunction in the nervous system and persists for months or years even after the initial damage had been healed. It can occur in a variety of traumatic diseases including spinal cord injury and nerve compression. Also, it is a common secondary symptom in diseases like diabetes, cancer and herpes zoster infection, and can occur after the use of cytotoxic drugs. The condition has a poor prognosis and is a significant cause of morbidity.

About Market

Although there is no single definition of neuropathic pain, approximately 26 million patients worldwide suffer from some forms of the condition (Espicom, 2005). The management of neuropathic pain is still a major challenge to pharmacotherapy due to its unresponsiveness to most of the pain-killers, anticonvulsants, antidepressants and in some cases, opioids.

The global market value for neuropathic pain treatments is currently estimated at $2.1 billion and is predicted to rise to $5.5 billion by 2010.
